Let us Pray for Strength

I see distress in your eye
And I know you may feel pain
May Allah shower his blessings upon you
Like the heavy monsoon rain

A loss of anything hurts the soul
And instils a state of strife
Many things leave you lost for words
But the worst is the loss of life

The companions are a role model for us to see
And the Prophet also felt this, worse
Their pain was as bad as yours my friend
So if you may, I shall rehearse-

A lesson to learn, I give to you
My family, on this grim full day
Allah is with the patient and
Forgiving to whom He may

The companions expound an example
Twas a truthful companion that did
This lesson is very important
For impatience it does forbid

One day her son, due to die
Had an ailment of terrible source
The father one day went to work and
His son's soul departed his corpse

The father returned and wanted to see
His beloved son who was ill
His wife then sat him down to eat
And was as time was standing still

Not knowing his son had died
He said: "What keep ye mother form us?"
And after her husband finished his meal
She asked her husband thus:

"If anyone entrusts you with something of his
Be it money, silver or gold
A camel load of goods and food
Or even a life of nine years old

And such a one, my husband so
He asks of it back one day
What would you do to realize
That your son has died today"

Upon this the father straight away
Knew that his son returned
To be present among angels and God
With all that his life had earned

The father felt no pain or scorn
With what his wife did say
And said:"If it was truly written
I wouldn't wait another day!"

Such was the training of Muhammad I say
To his companions and enemies alike
So let us prepare for a day like this
For death any time can strike

God be with us in all affairs
And help us through this life I say
For the life to come is much more blessed
Let us pray for strength today
